Are there different intentions or why are there two portals for one matter? I mean, the way it currently is, I find no reason to prefer one over the other, but the current state will likely split the potential community.

I also posed this question at physics.stackexchange, so please feel free to compare the answers.

(Sorry for the general tag, I couldn't create something like physicsoverflow or stackexchange)

This one still has an active admin. The other one's admin hasn't been seen since December 2009.
